18-Foot Monolithic Murti · Astrological Alignments · Mahakal Kshetra
Bada Ganesh Ka Mandir
A monumental beacon of faith holding a massive, brilliantly colored eighteen-foot-tall image of Lord Ganesh, sculpted with profound alignment to ancient Vedic astrological wisdom.
The Colossal Image
A Monumental Manifestation of Vinayaka
Located just a short walk from the historic Mahakaleshwar temple complex, the vibrant shrine of Bada Ganesh Ka Mandir houses one of the most striking and artistically grand icons of Lord Ganesh found anywhere in India. The word 'Bada' translates directly to 'Big' or 'Colossal,' a fitting description for the magnificent image that stands over eighteen feet tall. His wide, benevolent eyes and majestic form dominate the compact inner sanctum, instantly filling visitors with a deep sense of peace.
The construction of this iconic image was initiated in the early decades of the 20th century by a revered, deeply learned philosopher and astrologer, Shri Narayan Maharaj. He envisioned a highly visible, spiritually charged icon that could act as a focus for meditation and obstacle-removal for the thousands of seekers visiting the holy city of Ujjain.
Sacred Artistry
Unique Material Composition & The Five-Faced Hanuman
What makes this colossal icon unique is its material composition, which strictly avoids the use of standard stone slabs or metal castings. Instead, the entire eighteen-foot icon was carefully built using a meticulous mix of traditional building materials and holy elements. The structural core is formed of clean bricks, lime plaster, and coarse sand, bound together with a sacred paste made of gur (jaggery) and fenugreek seeds.
This mixture was further enriched with clay gathered from seven exceptionally sacred tirthas (holy water bodies) across Bharat, along with water from India's most revered rivers. To add to its spiritual power, a vast assortment of powdered planetary herbs and precious metals were mixed into the base layers before it was painted in brilliant saffron tones.
Directly in the center of the temple compound stands another rare icon: a unique image of Panchamukhi Hanuman (The Five-Faced Lord Hanuman). This guardian icon represents mastery over the five spiritual directions and provides deep protective protection over the holy site.
