Ranbireshwar Temple
A monumental home for the Divine, housing the largest collection of crystal and monolithic Lingams in Bharat.
The Central Sanctum
The 7.5-Foot Monolith
Commissioned by Maharaja Ranbir Singh and completed in 1883, the Ranbireshwar Temple is a landmark of Jammu’s "City of Temples." The primary attraction is the central Shiva Lingam, a massive 7.5-foot (some records state 8-foot) monolithic black stone structure that radiates a powerful spiritual presence. This giant Lingam is situated on an elevated platform, approached by flights of steps that emphasize its towering grandeur.
The Rare Collections
The Spathika and Bana Lingams
The temple is spiritually unique for its auxiliary shrines. Flanking the main sanctum are galleries containing two pairs of eleven **Spathika (crystal) Lingams**. These twelve-inch crystals were brought from the Narmada River and are revered for their purity. Furthermore, the basement and halls house over a lakh (100,000) small *Bana Lingams*, also from the Narmada, meticulously enshrined to create a forest of sacred energy.
History & Devotion
The Maharaja's Legacy
Maharaja Ranbir Singh, a great patron of Vedic scholarship, established this temple under the inspiration of the seer Nadh Giri Ji Maharaj. The temple complex also includes a massive brass Nandi statue and the Samadhi of the seer. It serves as a living museum of Dogra craftsmanship, featuring intricate wall carvings and a towering 75-foot Shikhar (spire) that defines the Jammu skyline.
